GV EVBC Transmittal Email Newsletter #1 & Slides Damond L Osterhus 26 Feb 2024 08:18 MST
Hello Bill, Steve, Hugh, and Jackie.

TRANSMITTAL EMAIL
As mentioned in last Wednesday's class, this is the first Green Valley
Electric Vehicle Basics Class (GV EVBC) transmittal email. Its purpose is to
send you pdf'd copies of the Newsletter #1, and the PowerPoint slides from
the Intro, Topics, and Lingo session.

I have to transmit the above attachments to you using a plain text email
because the OLLI-UA Simplelists email distribution system sometimes has a
problem with the HTML text formats with its different fonts, underlining,
bolding, etc. I use the full suite of these different formats in the
Newsletter.

Also, I have to further reduce the size of the Newsletter's pdf in order to
make it past the Simplelists 7 mb maximum size. Consequently, you will find
some of the text in the slides a little blurry. The Newsletter in standard
pdf is almost 5 mb because of the slides being included. The slides file is
in standard pdf and so the text isn't blurry.

INVITATION TO PATRICK O'LEARY
I am also taking this opportunity to invite Patrick O'Leary to join us next
Wednesday, February 28th. The more the merrier, and I hope to be able to
answer your specific Electric Vehicle questions in the class.

As a GV EVBC registrant you will continue to receive the transmittal email
with the Newsletters and PowerPoint slides even though you do not
participate in the weekly sessions. You will be able to review the
Newsletter and the PowerPoint slides and get the gist of what is happening
in each session without attending.
NOTE: At the end of the transmittal email, you will find instructions on
how to stop getting the emails, should you desire to do so. If you decide
later to continue receiving the transmittal email and the attachments, just
contact me and I will have it turned on.

DISCUSSION OF THINGS IN ADVANCE OF NEXT WEDNESDAY'S SESSION
Below are some things that caught my attention during last week's session
that I'd like to discuss here before next Wednesday's session. They are also
noted in the Newsletter, but just in case you are not able to read the
Newsletter in its entirety, I'd like to cover them here.

Small Group Size Allows Me to Customize My Presentations So as to Address
Each of Your Specific Desires for Information and Answers to Questions
  - I would like to be able to focus on how an Electric Vehicle might fit
in the way each of you currently operate your vehicles; EV advantages &
disadvantages. Particularly, given that you all appear to drive them long
distances to return to or visit your "other" homes, yet still drive them
mostly "locally" while residing here in Green Valley.
-- I would like to provide some suggestions to Hugh's family members in
Estes Park CO when it comes to dealing with the charging of their EV.
-- I will address Hugh's comment on What will happen to the ability to
supply electricity when all the vehicles go electric?

REQUEST FOR FEEDBACK ON THE NEWSLETTER STYLE & POSSIBLY NOT PROVIDING A COPY
OF THE POWERPOINT SLIDES
At the end of the Newsletter, I am requesting your feedback on the style of
the Newsletter. It is lengthy because I include the slides. Some are in a
reduced size, that to some may not be readable. I am attempting to make the
Newsletter as the single "handout" for my EV classes, by including the
PowerPoint slides along with comments and expanded explanations. The
blurriness of some text in the slides in the pdf'd Newsletter because of its
having to be reduced may be a factor to consider. If I do not also send the
PowerPoint slides, I will not have to further reduce the Newsletter.

In this regard, I would ask that you at least scan Newsletter #1, and
respond to me either via a Reply to this email, a direct email to
xxxxxx@verizon.net or text message to 520.449-1893 or even in
person, to let me know that if I provide all slides in a reduced but legible
size, in the Newsletter, that I could eliminate sending a pdf copy of the
PowerPoint slide file. However, let me know if receiving the PowerPoint
slide file is important to you and I will continue to send it along with the
Newsletter.

It would seem with the additional comments, and expanded explanations that
there would be no need for the PowerPoint slide file. The Newsletter with
the slides included would meet your needs for a EVBC handout that is
satisfactory and will not have to be further reduced.
THANKS FOR LISTENING
